Handling the Hurricanes

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The UCF women's soccer team jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, cruising to a 3-0 victory over Miami in its first exhibition match of the season Wednesday night.

"It was a good performance overall," head coach Tiffany Roberts Sahaydak said. "Being our first scrimmage of the season, it's always nice to come away with a shutout and scoring goals. It's definitely a good place to start."

Kayla Adamek started the Knights off early, scoring off a header from Bridget Callahan to put UCF up 1-0 in the third minute.

UCF doubled up the score in the 19th minute after Julia Moore stripped the defender and used a bounce off teammate Morgan Ferrara to find the back of the net. Ferrara added a goal of her own in the 73rd minute, as she knocked down a pass from Emily Tipton and sent it in.

It was a total team effort as well, with 20 members of the Black and Gold seeing action.

The Knights also limited Miami's time of possession, limiting the Hurricanes to just eight shots on the night.

UCF hosts UNF in the final exhibition contest of the preseason on Saturday, Aug. 12. Admission for the 7 p.m. contest is free. The Knights officially open the season at No. 4 South Carolina on Aug. 18, and return to the UCF Soccer Complex to host Stetson on Aug. 20.
