Shutting Out Stetson

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - A pair of first half goals led the UCF women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Stetson on Sunday afternoon at the UCF Soccer Complex.

"I thought we did play well today," head coach Tiffany Roberts Sahaydak said. "I thought we played a lot of people off the bench, using a lot of our depth. I liked (the team's) mentality from the beginning. To get two (goals), was great."

The Knights (1-1) used goals in the 17th and 43rd minute to top the Hatters. The Black and Gold held a 14-2 edge in shots and won the home opener for the second straight season under Roberts Sahaydak.

First Half Hustle

  • Morgan Ferrara cut through the defenders to receive a pass from Kayla Adamek at the top of the 18-yard box. She sent the game-winner into the net in the 17th minute.
  • In the 43rd minute, Jessica Taylor doubled the UCF advantage off a pass from Maura Aman. The Tampa, Fla., native knocked the ball down with her left foot, and delivered the goal off her right foot.

Team Effort

  • The Knights showed their depth against the Hatters, playing 19 members of the squad during the contest.
  • Dina Orschmann, who joined the Knights on Saturday after spending preseason with the German National Team at the UEFA Women's 19 Championship, notched her first minutes as a Knight. Taylor, who scored the second goal of the contest also so her first action of the season.

Stifling Stetson

  • UCF improved to 21-0 all-time against the Hatters and held Stetson to just two shots in the contest.
  • The Knights netted a pair of goals against Stetson for the second straight season.
  • UCF posted its first shutout against the Hatters since 2013. The Knights won 4-0 at the UCF Soccer Complex that season

The Knights return to action on Aug. 25. UCF hosts No. 6 North Carolina at 7 p.m. at the UCF Soccer Complex.
