ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – After a convincing 9-1 victory over Tampa on Aug. 15, UCF wraps up its exhibition season on Saturday at 7 p.m. against Georgia Southern. Admission is free to the match at the UCF Soccer Complex.
The Knights finished a number of opportunities in their first exhibition match under head coach Scott Calabrese. Junior Ricardo Oliveros and freshman Brandon Golding paced the squad with two goals and one assist, while a pair of goals were also tallied by junior Cal Jennings.
UCF recorded five goals in the first half, which included three in the first 23 minutes. Juniors Gorka Aperribay, Noah Murphy and sophomore Richard Amon also found the back of the net.
The top returner for the Knights is senior Matias Pyysalo, who was tabbed as The American Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. The Helsinki, Finland native registered 10 goals, including three game-winning goals in league play last season.
Georgia Southern posted an 8-8-2 overall mark and 3-1-1 record in conference play last season, but fell in the Sun Belt Championship to Georgia State. Wilson Blake paced the Eagles' offense with eight goals and two assists last season.
The Calabrese era begins on Aug. 25 at Duke. The Knights return for their home opener on Sept. 1 at 7 p.m. against Charlotte.
