ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – UCF plays its first of two exhibition matches on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. against Tampa. Admission is free to the contest at the UCF Soccer Complex.
The Knights began their preparation for the campaign on Aug. 9 with their first practice. The squad has held training sessions in four of the last five days.
There are 11 newcomers training alongside 15 returners from the 2016 squad. UCF head coach Scott Calabrese is in his first season guiding the Knights.
Senior Matias Pyysalo is the reigning American Athletic Conference Player of the Year after scoring 10 goals and adding five assists. The Knights won three league games and earned a berth in top four of the conference standings.
Tampa posted a 13-5-3 overall record and 4-4-1 mark in Sunshine State Conference play. The Spartans advanced to the NCAA DII Quarterfinals.
The Knights wrap up exhibition play on Saturday with a 7 p.m. start against Georgia Southern at the UCF Soccer Complex.
