ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) – As the summer collegiate baseball leagues enter the final stages of the regular season, UCF baseball players continue to make a substantial impact for their clubs. Each Knight playing this summer has his team in the playoff hunt.
 
More impressively, Matthew Mika and Maximillian Wood have battled in a contest of one-upmanship in separate leagues with Mika setting the Lakeshore Chinooks franchise record for stolen bases and Wood rolling off a 20-plus game hitting streak.
 
Check out how all the Knights have done over the last week below.
 
Matthew Mika & Rylan Thomas – Lakeshore Chinooks (Northwoods)

  • Entering the final weekend, the Chinooks are 30-26 in the midst of a battle to reach the Northwoods Playoffs
  • Mika was selected to participate in the Northwoods League Major Leagues Dreams Showcase
  • Mika ranks third in the league and set a team record for stolen bases in a single season with 25
  • Mika is hitting .344, sixth best in the Northwoods, and brought in 27 RBI
  • Last week, Mika was 12-for-34 (.353) with five RBI for four steals
  • Thomas has a .316 mark at the plate and team-high 42 RBI
  • Thomas notched a .296 clip and drove in four runs


Maximillian Wood & Michael Higgins – Staunton Braves (Valley)

  • At 19-23, the Braves earned a spot in the postseason, which starts this weekend
  • Wood ranked third in the league with a .390 clip at the plate, propelled by a 21-game hit streak
  • Wood went 8-for-17 (.471) with four multi-hit games last week
  • Higgins had a .273 batting average in the regular season with 11 RBI


Thad Ward – Matsu Miners (Alaska)

  • Has the Miners in first place heading into the playoff next week with a record of 24-17
  • 16 appearances, 30 1/3 innings pitched, 24 strikeouts, 24 hits and six earned runs
  • Leads league in wins with 5-1 record
  • Last week, made two appearances to total three innings with one punchout, two hits and one earned run against

 
Ray Alejo & Anthony George – Altamonte Springs Scorpions (Florida)

  • Scorpions sit third in the league, one game back of second, as the league wraps up the regular season this weekend
  • Alejo ranks second in the league with a .340 batting average with 12 RBI with 33 hits this season
  • Alejo hit .211 last week with one walk and one RBI
  • George leads the team with 13 RBI and is batting .333 on the year
  • George hit for the cycle over the five games and was 6-for-18 (.333) last week to add to four RBI

Dallas Beaver – Cincinnati Steam (Great Lakes)

  • Steam are out of the playoffs by two games before the final weekend
  • Batting .351 for the year to go with 24 RBI, 22 walks and an on-base percentage of .430
  • Dipped to a .318 clip last week with three RBI and four walks
