ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) – Enrique Paya and Harrison Richmond were recognized by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) as 2017 ITA Scholar Athlete award winners.
Richmond posted a 3.625 GPA during his redshirt senior season with the Knights. The Pawleys Island, S.C., native is pursuing a master's degree in interdisciplinary studies. Richmond was one of five UCF student-athletes to be recognized by the American Athletic Conference with the Sport Excellence Award for men's tennis.
Richmond also garnered UCF Dean's List and Athletic Director's Honor Roll accolades during the 2016-17 academic year.
The redshirt senior finished the year with a 14-4 record split between number two and number three singles. Richmond led the way in doubles action with a 10-8 record at number one, going 807 with Mariano Porter.
Paya, a finance major, excelled in the classroom during his freshman year to record a 3.875 GPA, good for a pair of UCF Dean's List and Athletic Director's Honor Roll selections. The Spanish international was 3-1 as a freshman in singles play, but made a major contribution in doubles with an 8-5 record in the third spot.
Letterwinners who have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters and have a grade-point average of at least 3.5 receive the award. At least one Knight has earned the distinction every year since 2011.
