PANAMA CITY, Panama (UCFKnights.com) – Team Puerto Rico and UCF rising senior Monica Matias are heading to Group I Americas in the FedCup presented by BNP Paribas after dispatching Ecuador 2-0 in the promotional play-off on Saturday night.

Matias defeated her opponent in straight sets for the second day in a row with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Luisa Uscocovich on Rubber One. The native of Moco, Puerto Rico, improved to 3-0 in the tournament and 7-2 in her FedCup career.

Monica Puig punched the ticket for Puerto Rico in dominant fashion against Camila Romero on Rubber Two. The 2016 Rio Olympics gold medalist dominated her match to the tune of 6-0, 6-3.

The doubles team of Lauren Anzalotta-Kynoch and Chantal Martinez-Blanco could not bounce back from yesterday's defeat due to Saturday's point being waved off.

Puerto Rico's promotion marks its first return to Group I since 2010.
