Puerto Rico vs. Trinidad and Tobago Box Score

PANAMA CITY, Panama (UCFKnights.com) – Monica Matias and Puerto Rico advanced to the play-off stage of the FedCup presented by BNP Paribas by defeating Trinidad and Tobago 2-1 on Friday afternoon at the Centro de Alto Rendimiento Fred Maduro.

The UCF rising senior made quick work of Breana Stampfli on Friday, winning in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 on Rubber One. Matias is now 6-2 in singles play in her FedCup career.

Monica Puig delivered the match for the second day in a row for Puerto Rico, as the 2016 Rio Olympics gold medalist downed Anneliese Rose with a 6-0, 6-0 victory.

Trinidad and Tobago managed to steal the doubles point, as Stampfli and Rose defeated Lauren Anzalotta-Kynoch and Chantal Martinez-Blanco 6-4, 6-4. 

The victory clinched Group C in Group II Americas for Matias and company. Puerto Rico will head into the play-offs this weekend looking to advance to Group I for the first time since 2010
