Kresl Qualifies for US Amateur

Opens in a new window US Amateur Championship

ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) – Incoming UCF freshman Colin Kresl has qualified to take part in the U.S. Amateur Championship.

Kresl won a qualifying tournament, played Monday and Tuesday, at Fox Hollow Golf Club in Trinity, Fla. He shot a 137 for the two-round stroke-play event. He won the event by five strokes, earning the right to move on to the U.S. Amateur Championship.

The U.S. Amateur is slated for Aug. 14-20 at Riviera Country Club and Bel-Air Country Club in California. A field of 312 amateur golfers will take part in two rounds of stroke play, with the top 64 moving on to match play.

Kresl, a Lakeland native, was ranked the No. 28 player in the State of Florida for the 2017 recruiting class when he signed with UCF. He will join the Knights when classes begin this fall and will be part of a UCF team that is coming off an NCAA Regional title.
