ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) – Another Knight has been named to a national award watch list. Tre'Quan Smith earned a spot on the 2017 Biletnikoff Award Watch List for college football's outstanding receiver at any position, as announced by the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation on Tuesday.
Smith led UCF with 57 receptions, 853 yards receiving and five touchdowns as a redshirt sophomore in 2016. He averaged 65.6 yards per game and went over the 100-yard mark in four games.
The Biletnikoff Award winner is selected by the highly distinguished National Selection Committee. The committee is made up of prominent college football journalists, commentators, and former receivers. Ten semifinalists will be announced on Nov. 13, 2017.
The name Biletnikoff is synonymous with the term receiver. Fred Biletnikoff, a member of the pro and college football halls of fame, was an All-America receiver at Florida State, and an All-Pro receiver for the Oakland Raiders.
Smith and the Knights open up camp July 27 and will host FIU in the season opener, Aug. 31 at 6 p.m. at Spectrum Stadium.
