ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) – Following a standout junior season for the Knights, senior Jamiyus Pittman was named to the 2017 Outland Trophy Watch List, as announced by the Football Writers Association of America on Thursday.
Pittman, a second team all-conference selection by The American in 2016, totaled 28 tackles, 4.5 tackles-for-loss and two sacks as a junior. He had one pass break-up and recovered two fumbles on the defensive line.
The FWAA named 81 standout interior linemen to the 2017 Outland Trophy Watch List, with Pittman as one of just 21 defensive tackles garnering the honors.
The list will be trimmed to six or seven semifinalists on Nov. 15 and six days later three Outland Trophy finalists will be named by the FWAA. The winner of the 72nd Outland Trophy – named after the late John Outland, an All-America lineman at Penn at the turn of the 20th century – will be announced on Dec. 7.
Pittman will join Shaquem Griffin, Aaron Evans and Jordan Akins to help kickoff the 2017 season at the American Athletic Conference Media Days July 17 and 18 in Newport, R.I.
