JUPITER, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) -- UCF's Kyler Tate tied for third place at the 100th Florida State Amateur Championship, which concluded Sunday at the Bear's Club.
Tate carded the best round of the final day to climb the leaderboard into third place. Cristian DeMarco (-8) and Brandon Mancheno (-4) were the only two amateur golfers in the state of Florida to post better scores in the tournament.
Tate opened with a 75 and posted a 67 in the second round. In the third round, he carded a 76 and came back with another 67 over the final 18 holes. There were four scores of 67 tallied throughout the entire tournament, with two of them belonging to Tate.
Tate finished at 3-under for the tournament and was one of just four golfers to post four-round scores below par.
His strong finish at the Florida State Amateur came on the heels of earning PING All-America Honorable Mention honors from the Golf Coaches Association of America. Tate will be a junior for the Knights this coming year.
