ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) -- UCF rising junior Donnie Trosper narrowly missed qualifying for the U.S. Open recently. He missed the cut by just two strokes at a U.S. Open Sectional Qualifying Tournament in Columbus, Ohio.
Trosper defeated some well-known professional players and was the second-highest finishing amateur in the field at his sectional. Trosper tied with well-known PGA Tour professional Vijay Singh and defeated popular pros Luke Donald and K.J. Choi by one stroke.
"It was a great experience knowing I can keep up, beat pros and be in contention at a high level," Trosper said. "My experience was great overall. I chatted up Robert Streb and McKenzie Hughes, who is a PGA Tour winner this year, about how the life is like on tour. I just felt like I belonged out there, playing for the next generation. I really would like to inspire some kids one day."
Trosper and his Knights teammates will open the their 2017-18 campaign this fall.
