ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – UCF senior Robby Howell was named to the 2017 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division I South All-Region Second Team on Thursday.
Howell was recognized as a Collegiate Baseball Newspaper/Louisville Slugger Second Team All-American earlier this month. He became the 13th Division I All-American in program history.
The Ft. White, Fla., native tied a program record with 50 career starts. He compiled 3.25 ERA with 94 strikeouts in 103.0 innings of work this season.
The American Pitcher of the Year posted 10 victories in 2017, which was sixth in program single-season history. Howell tossed two complete game shutouts against Jacksonville and UConn. The righty notch a career-high 11 strikeouts against the Huskies.
A total of 22 Knights in program history have received ABCA All-Region accolades. The last Knight to garner all-region honors was Zach Rodgers following the 2015 season.
The Knights completed a remarkable turnaround in the first season under the guidance of head coach Greg Lovelady. UCF captured The American regular season title after posting the school's first 40-win season and NCAA Regional appearance since 2012.
