ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – UCF redshirt junior Jordan Scheftz and junior Andy Rohloff were selected on the final day of the 2017 MLB Draft on Wednesday. With redshirt junior Jason Bahr and senior Robby Howell hearing their names called on Tuesday, the Knights saw four players taken in this year's draft, which is the most since six UCF players were drafted in 2012.
Scheftz was taken by the Cleveland Indians in the 23rd round (702nd overall). The righty compiled a 1.76 ERA with 40 strikeouts in 30.2 innings of work, while making 26 appearances out of the bullpen
The Irvine, Calif., native becomes the second Knight drafted by the Indians, joining Owen Dew (21st round, 2010),
Rohloff heard his name called in the 37th round (1116th overall) by the San Francisco Giants, who also took Bahr on Tuesday in the fifth round. He made 10 relief appearances and tallied 10 strikeouts in 9.1 innings of work.
The duo of Rohloff and Bahr join Clay Timpner (2004) and Alex Morales (1995) as the four Knights that have been drafted by the Giants.
The quartet selected this year provide Greg Lovelady with 10 drafted players in his time as a head coach. The former Wright State skipper had five players drafted in 2016 and one in 2015.
Overall, UCF has now had 97 players drafted by MLB in program history. The Knights have seen a total of 58 players tabbed in the first 20 rounds.
