ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) – Robby Howell has been named the 13th Division I All-American in UCF Baseball program history. The senior pitcher earned Collegiate Baseball Second Team All-America honors, as announced on Thursday.
Howell has enjoyed a banner year in the Black and Gold, helping to lead the Knights to an American Athletic Conference Championship and the team's first 40-win season and NCAA Regional appearance since 2012.
The 2017 American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year, Howell holds a 10-0 record on the mound with a 3.28 ERA and 90 strikeouts in 96.0 innings pitched. Of the 28 starting pitchers to earn All-America accolades from Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, Howell is one of just five yet to lose a game.
The Ft. White, Fla., native is the seventh UCF pitcher to earn All-America honors and the first since Zach Rodgers in 2015. Howell ranks sixth in the nation with his 10 wins and is sixth all-time in UCF history for victories in a season.
Howell, a First Team All-Conference selection by The American, will start Friday's opener at the NCAA Tallahassee Regional against Auburn. The Knights and the Tigers square off at noon on ESPN2.
