ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – After taking another conference series 2-1 at Tulane over the weekend, the UCF baseball team heads south to Miami for a midweek tilt against the Hurricanes Wednesday. The Knights enter the week just one game outside of first place in The American.

"This is what we signed up for, these are the goals we set," UCF head coach Greg Lovelady said. "Now we just have to go out and continue to do the things that got us here, nothing changes. The situation doesn't change anything, we have to continue to work and keep doing the things that got us here."

The Knights are currently 33-15, tied with Houston at 11-7 in The American, just one game back of South Florida (12-6). The Black and Gold now rank No. 30 according NCAA.com RPI and continue to be among the nation's best in pitching and base running.

UCF hurlers boast a combined ERA of 2.66, the fifth best in NCAA Division I and the staff has struck out 434 hitters this season. On the base paths, the Knights are 10th in the nation in stolen bases with 91, led by infielder Matthew Mika who is 25-27 on the year.

Offensively, UCF is hitting a combined .281 with 91 doubles, 15 triples, and 36 home runs. Senior Eli Putnam leads the squad hitting .330 while first baseman Rylan Thomas has a team-high 44 RBIs.

The Black and Gold offense leads The American in scoring, driving home 311 runs and averaging a conference-best 6.5 runs per game.

The Hurricanes enter the midweek match one game above .500 at 24-23 including a 12-11 mark in ACC. The Miami offense is hitting .222 and has a total staff ERA of 3.78.
