Knights Conference Run Ends in Semifinals

CLEARWATER, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The UCF Baseball team's run in the American Athletic Conference tournament ended Saturday, as the Knights fell 4-0 to East Carolina at Spectrum Field. While the tournament is over for the Black and Gold, the team is still positioned to make its first NCAA Regional appearance since 2012.

UCF got another solid performance from its pitching staff, as Jason Bahr made his first start since the fourth week of the regular season after switching roles and becoming one of the team's most dominant relievers. He went four innings Saturday and combined with relievers Bryce Tucker and Jordan Scheftz to give up just 4 hits in the game.

The trio also struck out eight Pirates hitters and walked just four. But two solo home runs and a pair of unearned runs was all East Carolina needed, as the Knights offense struggled at the plate. UCF batters came up with just three hits and were unable to capitalize with runners in scoring position.

The Last time the Knights were shut out was all the way back on March 8th, when then-No. 2 Florida State came to visit for a pair of midweek games. East Carolina now moves on to face Houston in Sunday's championship game.

Meanwhile, the Knights return to Orlando and shift their focus to preparing for NCAA Regionals. Regional selections and host sites will be announced Monday May 29 on ESPN2.

UCF expects to hear its name called Monday, after winning 40 games for the first time since 2012 and claiming its first regular-season conference crown since joining The American.
