Knights Fall to FAU

Opens in a new window UCF53

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF baseball team fell to FAU 9-4 at The Ballpark of The Palm Beaches Tuesday. It was the second time the Knights have fallen to the Owls this season after dropping an 8-3 decision back on April 11 in Orlando.

The Owls got on the board with a 1-0 lead in the first inning but the Knights battled back, tying the game in the second with back-to-back doubles from first baseman Rylan Thomas and Third Baseman Kam Gellinger.

FAU answered with two runs in the second and a four spot in the third and never looked back. The Black and Gold added one run in each of the third, seventh, and ninth innings but were unable to put together a multiple-run frame.

UCF now turns its sights back to conference play, as rival South Florida comes to town this weekend for another War on I-4 series. Although the Knights have already clinched the overall rivalry title, the series is crucial in determining The American's regular season champion, as both squads are in a three-way tie with Houston at 13-8.

The Black and Gold would take the regular-season title with a three game sweep of the Bulls or by winning two of three combined with at least one Houston loss. The Cougars host 9-12 Cincinnati for a three game series in Texas.

First pitch from the UCF Baseball Complex is scheduled for Thursday May 18 at 6:30 p.m. Game two Friday is also slated for 6:30 p.m. with Saturday's finale set to air on CBS Sports Network beginning at 1 p.m. Marc Daniels has the call on UCFKnights.TV (Fri. & Sat.), iHeartRadio and FM 96.9 The Game.
