Beaten by the Bulls

TAMPA, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The UCF baseball team dropped the third game of the War on I-4 to the Bulls at USF Baseball Stadium Sunday.

The Bulls started things early, with a lead-off home run in the bottom of the first. But the Knights battled back in the third, taking a 2-1 lead.

Short stop Brennan Bozeman started the inning with a single through the left side and center fielder Luke Hamblin drew a walk. Then with two outs, after Bozeman advanced on a fly ball out and Hamblin had stolen second, left fielder Kyle Marsh ripped a single to left center, scoring both runners.

The Knights would add one more in the fourth, after designated hitter Ryan Crile drew a lead-off walk and catcher Anthony George doubled down the left-field line. Short stop Kam Gellinger then grounded out to second, allowing Crile to score from third.

First baseman Rylan Thomas pushed the lead to two with a solo home run in the fifth, but the Bulls battled back in the bottom half of the inning.
A lead-off triple followed by a double and a one-out single, brought in two runs to make it 4-4. With runners on the corners and one out, USF added another double and a single to take a 6-4 lead.

UCF got a run back in the sixth, after Gellinger delivered a two-out triple down the right-field line, then scored on a single by Hamblin making it 6-5.
The Bulls would extend the lead in the seventh however, putting together a double and a single before scoring from third on a wild pitch.

It looked like UCF might try and rally in the ninth when Putnam took first after getting hit by a pitch, but the next three hitters were retired in order.

Next up, the Knights host FAU for a midweek match on Tuesday April 11 at 6:30 p.m. at the UCF Baseball Complex. Strream every pitch at UCFKnights.TV, listen at iHeart Radio and FM 96.9 The Game or click here to follow along via live stats.
