STANFORD, Calif. (UCFKnights.com) – Anne-Marie Blaney highlighted Saturday action for the UCF track and field team, breaking her own UCF 10,000-meter record at the Cardinal Classic.
The Ocala, Fla., native led wire-to-wire in the race and crossed the line in 33:18.81. Her mark was not only a personal best, it also ranks fourth in the nation in the event. Blaney broke her second school record in as many weekends after lowering her time in the 5,000-meter run at the Mt. Sac Relays on April 14.
The Knights had a strong showing from coast to coast. The Black and Gold collected six first-place finishes at the South Florida Collegiate and a pair of top 12 finishes at the Triton Invitational on Saturday.
UCF captured four of the top five places in the 200-meter dash, led by SheKara Martin's season-best winning time of 23.56. J'Nea Bellamy placed second with a season best mark of 24.02, followed by Ashley Jocelyn's 24.23 mark for fourth place. Loren Gallmon posted a personal best time of 24.76 for fifth place.
Martin added a second victory to her day with a season-best 11.72 time in the 100-meter dash. She was joined in the top five by Gallmon, whose personal best time of 12.17 gave her fifth.
Ebony Crear took the 400-meter hurdles title with a time of 59.96.
The 4x100 meter relay team, consisting of Bellamy, Jocelyn, Gallmon and Martin posted a season-best time of 45.11 to take home the top honors.
In the triple jump, Briana Potter turned in a personal best mark of 39-7.75/12.08m to win the event. Makeda Elliot collected the long jump title with a season-best distance of 18-2.5/5.55m.
The second day of the Triton Invitational featured a fourth-place finish from Precious Williams in the javelin. Her toss landed at 127-10. Jhane' Carter finished 11th in the shot put with a toss of 45-1.
UCF returns to action on April 26 at the Drake Relays.
