ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) – With the women's golf team's win at the American Athletic Conference Championships on Tuesday, UCF clinched the department-wide victory in the first ever War On I-4 Rivalry Series.

In September of 2016, UCF and USF announced the year-long series in an effort to continue the passionate rivalry between the two programs.  Now with a 46-26 lead, UCF has won the 2016-17 version of the War On I-4 and will take the trophy home to Orlando.

The first ever contest in the War On I-4 was a 3-0 UCF sweep of USF in volleyball on Sept. 21.  The Knights also earned points in the fall with a draw in women's soccer, finishing higher than the Bulls at The American Cross Country Championships, and a second sweep in volleyball.

UCF extended its lead in the series to 36-15 with five straight victories over USF from a men's basketball home win on Jan. 17 to a men's tennis victory on Apr. 1.  The Knights also earned points during that span from a men's and women's basketball victories in Tampa and the track & field team coming home with The American Indoor Championship.

The UCF softball team earned an additional four points in the series when the Knights took two-of-three from the Bulls just this past weekend.  But it was the women's golf team that clinched it for the Black and Gold, winning The American title and leaving the Bulls out of reach in the final standings.

With just over a month before the 2016-17 War On I-4 comes to a close, there are still three teams vying for points.  The men's golf teams will compete at The American Championships Apr. 23-25 in Palm Harbor, the women's track & field teams will once again do battle at the outdoor championships in Houston May 12-14, and the baseball teams will play a final three-game series in Orlando, May 18-20.
