Ousted by the Owls

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The UCF Baseball team dropped an 8-3 decision to FAU at the UCF Baseball Complex Tuesday. The Knights came close, posting a three-run fifth inning to draw within one, but couldn't keep the Owls off the board.

Down 4-0 in the fifth, designated hitter Bryce Peterson got UCF going with an infield single with one out. Catcher Anthony George then drew a walk, and he and Peterson each moved up a base on wild pitch. Third Baseman Brooks Morgan then singled up the middle and took second when the Owl center fielder tried to throw George out at home.

Second baseman Matthew Mika followed with a single to right, moving Morgan to third. Center fielder Luke Hamblin then hit a chopper up the middle to score Morgan and bring the Knights within one. The short stop fielded the ball deep behind second base, and Hamblin was called out on a close play at first.

Down 4-3 heading into the sixth, the Black and Gold were unable to keep the Owls from answering. A two out walk, stolen base, & a wild pitch put a runner on third and the next hitter struck out swinging on a ball in the dirt. Unfortunately, the ball skipped away from George allowing the batter to reach first and the runner to score from third.

Another walk and three-straight RBI singles would make the score 8-3, and ultimately put the game out of reach as the Knights would manage just one hit through the next four innings.

Next up, the Knights head back on the road for a three-game series with East Carolina April 13-15. Tune in and listen at iHeart Radio and FM 96.9 The Game or click here to follow along via live stats.
