Knights Fall to No. 2

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The UCF baseball team fell for just the second time this season, as No. 2 Florida State took the first of two games 5-2 at the UCF Baseball Complex Tuesday.

Both losses have come against top-five opponents and Tuesday's defeat marks the first time the Knights have been beaten at home in 2017.

"We had some opportunities to try and win the game," UCF head coach Greg Lovelady said. "We have to take a little bit of that with us and understand that if we play better, we have a chance to win the game tomorrow."

Catcher Logan Heiser provided a spark for the Knights in the fourth, after left fielder Kyle Marsh drew a lead-off walk and the next two hitters were retired. Down 2-0 with two outs, Heiser delivered a two-run blast over the left-field wall, notching his first home run of the year and tying the game 2-2.

The celebration was short-lived however, as the game was ultimately decided by a three-run fifth inning by the visiting squad. The UCF bullpen put up four scoreless innings down the stretch, giving up just two hits, but the offense was unable to get the bats going and mount a comeback.
