ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) — Vice President and Director of Athletics Danny White has announced that UCF head volleyball coach Todd Dagenais has signed a four-year contract extension. The extension keeps Dagenais under contract to the Knights through the 2021 season.
"I've been very impressed with Todd's commitment to running a first-class volleyball program, both on the court and off," White said. "We're happy to have a coach of his caliber leading our student-athletes."
Dagenais recently completed his ninth season as the Knights' volleyball head coach. He guided UCF to a 23-10 record this past fall, including a 13-7 mark in the American Athletic Conference.
"I had a singular goal when I took over my very first head coaching job almost 10 seasons ago, I wanted to return to the type of program that was hanging banners on the wall in the late 1970's, the 1990's and early-to-mid 2000's," Dagenais said. "There was a rich tradition already in place. I was hoping to help the program adjust to the modern landscape of college volleyball and help guide UCF to another conference championship."
In 2014, Dagenais led the Knights to an American Athletic Conference Championship, earning a bid to the NCAA Tournament. Over the last four seasons, UCF has compiled three 20-plus win campaigns. Last season, the Knights were ranked in the top 50 of eight NCAA statistical categories, including total team digs (No. 22, 2051). Dagenais and his staff have coached UCF student-athletes to 10 AVCA All-Region honors, while seven have garnered AVCA All-America Honorable Mention laurels.
"This is an ongoing effort, with many chapters yet to be written," said Dagenais. "Collegiate sports oscillates by its nature. We have been fortunate to experience many more good times than bad times. Regardless, we have set out to do what we meant to do - win matches, have a perfect graduation rate, a perfect academic progress rate, and a bunch of women who are entering the workforce with the power of a Master's degree behind their name. They are in a position to chart their own course, with themselves as the captain of their ship. I'm thankful this wonderful university believes in our goals, and trusts my leadership enough to extend my opportunity to have a positive effect here."
Dagenais has tallied a 158-122 overall mark as head coach at UCF. Prior to joining the Knights, he served as assistant head coach at USC for three seasons. He has also served as associate head coach at Michigan State (1998-2003). He also coached as an assistant for one season at Northern Michigan.
Since the summer of 2004, Dagenais has worked with USA Volleyball. Last year, he worked with the USA National Team and was selected as co-head coach of the Collegiate Women's National Team.
