ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF baseball team is set to host Jacksonville Tuesday in the final game of the four-game season series between the two teams. It will also be Cancer Awareness Knight at the UCF Baseball Complex, as the team begins a month-long campaign to raise funds for cancer research.
UCF players, coaches, and staff will be collecting donations for the pediatric cancer department of Florida Hospital. All of the money raised will be applied to research grants, fans can click here to participate. The total amount raised will be announced on April 28 during the Knights home game against Memphis.
Fans are encouraged to attend Tuesday's game wearing the color(s) of the cancer or illness that has affected them most.
The Knights (19-6) took the first two games against the Dolphins last weekend before dropping the third game on the road. JU (10-12) recently lost a midweek match to Florida State before falling to West Virginia in two of three games over the weekend.
The Black and Gold are currently among the nation's best in pitching, ranking 5th in staff ERA at 2.28 and 11th in strikeout-to-walk ratio at 3.31. UCF also ranks fourth in the NCAA in stolen bases with 51, and eighth with 2.04 stolen-bases per game.
