ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF women's tennis team added a 6-1 victory against Milwaukee to its record on Tuesday morning at the USTA National Campus.
"I thought we came out and fought hard today," head coach Bryan Koniecko said. "We have a weekend off here so we look forward to training and getting better for the final stretch of the regular season."
The Knights (12-6) started strong clinching the doubles point. Emilia Granstrom and Natalia Serrano swept Hayley Marshall and Labina Petrovska, 6-0, on court two. On court three, UCF's Elizabeth Bagerbaseh and Nicole Jimenez trailed 2-0 but came back to win six straight games to win the doubles point, 6-2.
In singles, the Black and Gold jumped out to an early 2-1 lead. Cortney Cesarini posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory against Marshall on court four. Granstrom added the third point to the overall score with a 6-2, 6-1 win at the No. 3 position.
Serrano secured the win for the Knights with a 6-3, 6-0 win on court two. A 6-3, 6-3 victory for Monica Matias added the fifth point to the overall score.
Bagerbaseh was up 5-0 in the first set, but Milwaukee fought back and won five straight games to tie it up at 5-5. Bagerbaseh, the London, England native, regained composure and took the last two games effortlessly. In the second set, Bagerbaseh and Berta Masdevall Masip went toe-for-toe. UCF took a 5-4 lead and broke serve, winning 6-4 in the second.
The Knights have two weeks off before heading to Florida International on April 1 at 1 p.m.
