ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF women's tennis team added another victory to its record with a 7-0 sweep of Rhode Island on Tuesday afternoon.
"We came out with good energy today and took care of business," head coach Bryan Koniecko said. "It was nice to see us make improvements after yesterday's match. We look forward to getting back to Orlando and continuing to improve."
The Knights earned victories on all three doubles courts. Cortney Cesarini and Monica Matias earned a 6-3 win at the top spot, followed by Natalia Serrano and Emilia Granstrom posting a 6-1 win on court two. On court three, Elizabeth Bagerbaseh and Nicole Jimenez added a 6-4 victory to round it out.
UCF didn't drop a set on any of the six singles courts. Serrano started the group off with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 1. On court two, Matias added a 6-0, 6-2 win. A 6-2, 6-1 Cesarini victory clinched the match for the Knights. Granstrom added an additional point with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 4, while Bagerbaseh posted a 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 5. Jimenez rounded out the group with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 6 singles.
The Black and Gold return to the USTA National Campus to take on American Athletic Conference foe Tulsa on Saturday at 5 p.m.
