ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com)—No. 46 UCF women's tennis team earned its ninth victory this season with a 4-1 win over FAU (3-5) on Friday evening at the USTA National Campus.
"It was great to see our team take care of business today," said head coach Bryan Koniecko. "We started off well in doubles and then clinched the three singles spots quickly. There are some things we need to work on going into tomorrow's match. We will need to be better if we want to sneak away with a win against a tough Liberty team."
For the 10th time this season, the Knights, who are 9-1 on the season, clinched the doubles point. Matching 6-2 victories on courts one and two lifted UCF to a 1-0 lead.
In singles, Cortney Cesarini made quick work earning a 6-1, 6-0 victory to give the Black and Gold a 2-0 lead. Three minutes later, Monica Matias' 6-1, 6-0 win added another point to UCF's team score.
The American Athletic Conference Player of the Week, Natalia Serrano, sealed the deal for UCF with a straight-set victory, 6-2, 6-1, on the top court, which completed play.
The Knights host Liberty on Saturday at 4 p.m., at the USTA National Campus.
