ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com)—The UCF women's tennis team earned its first Intercollegiate Tennis Association national team ranking since the 2013 season on Tuesday. The Knights earned a ranking of No. 46 in the Oracle/ITA rankings this week.
The Knights (8-1) have seen time in the rankings in the past, but haven't been this high in a decade. In 2013, the Black and Gold found themselves ranked as high as 64, in 2011 they reached 68, in 2010 the highest ranking was 70 and way back in 2005 UCF reached number 69.
UCF joins the Tulsa as the only nationally ranked teams in the American Athletic Conference. The Knights are one of four teams in Florida to be ranked in the Top 50. The state of Florida is tied for third in most amount of ranked schools in the Top 50. Texas leads with six, followed by California with five, and Florida and North Carolina are tied with four each.
The Knights host Florida Atlantic on Friday at 5 p.m. and Liberty on Saturday at 4 p.m. Both contests will be played at the new home for UCF Tennis, the USTA National Campus.
