ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The Knights showed their love for the local youth in the Orlando community on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14. Student-athletes engaged in community initiatives at the Florida Hospital for Children and by partnering with Kids House and Wayne Densch Children's Advocacy Center.
In preparation for Valentine's Day, student-athletes from football, volleyball, men's tennis and women's tennis distributed over 40 Valentine's Day cards crafted with special notes to children recovering from illness/injury at the Florida Hospital for Children.
"I really love volunteering at Florida Hospital because I get the chance to meet different kids from all over Florida and share my experiences as a student-athlete," freshman men's tennis athlete Saitejas Mopuri said.
Staff, coaches, administration and student-athletes from UCF Athletics all played their part by contributing to the Knights Give A Gram, Kids Get A Gram Valentine's Day initiative supporting the Kids House. Primarily organized by members of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), the Knights were able to provide 44 candy grams for children who are currently being provided support at the Kids House.
"The children at the Kids House really appreciated the personalized notes that our student-athletes wrote in the candy grams," said Ashley Jocelyn, a graduate school student-athlete on the track and field team. "The best part of giving back is always going above and beyond, truly making an impact."
