ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com)—The UCF women's tennis team returns to action with a pair of matches this week. The Knights travel to the University of North Florida on Wednesday and host Florida Gulf Coast University on Friday at 1 p.m., at the USTA National Campus.
The Black and Gold enters the week with a 6-1 record coming off a 5-2 victory over Georgia Southern. Last week, senior Cortney Cesarini was named the American Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week after going 2-0 in both doubles and singles, only dropping two games during the entire week.
Emilia Granstrom sits with a 7-0 overall singles record, and holds a 7-0 record at No. 2 doubles with partner Natalia Serrano.
North Florida enters the match with a 3-3 overall record. In their last outing, the Ospreys dropped a 4-0 decision to LSU. Michelle Valdez is ranked No. 83 in the Oracle/ITA singles rankings. UNF holds a 8-5 lead over UCF in the all-time series. Last season, the Knights dropped a close 4-3 decision to the Ospreys.
FGCU is off to its best start since the 2006-2007 season, entering Friday's match with a 4-1 overall record, . Last season, UCF fell 4-3 to the Eagles, but the Knights are 6-1 overall against the Blue and Green.
