ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The College Cheerleading and Dance National Championships are set for Jan. 14-15 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. UCF Cheerleading and KnightMoves have been preparing to take the stage at hp Field House all year and have couple of events coming up to showcase their routines.
The cheer team has earned three-consecutive runner-up finishes and has finished in the top four in the last 11 competitions. Under the guidance of head coach Linda Gooch, UCF has placed in the Top 10 of the College Cheerleading National Championships 21 times in the last 23 years, including national titles in 2003 and 2005.
Fans at men's and women's basketball games have seen the cheerleaders and KnightMoves perform at halftime over the past month in preparation for the event. Below is the schedule for their final week of preparation as the Knights head toward championship weekend.
Monday – 6:30 p.m. – Practice Gym in The Venue
Family and Friends Showcase – for all fans interesting in watching the Knights perform their routine
Tuesday – Practice Gym in The Venue
Team Practice
Wednesday – Practice Gym in The Venue
Alumni Showcase – UCF Cheer and Dance Alumni come back to campus to watch the team perform.
Thursday – Disney Wide World of Sports
Walk through and practice schedule at hp Field House
Friday – 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. – UCF Arena
Competition joint practice session with squads from Tennessee, LSU, Mississippi State, Ohio State, Wallace State (JUCO), Iowa Western (JUCO).
Saturday – ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex
The semifinals of the College Cheerleading and Dance National Championships take place at hp Field House during the afternoon. The cheerleading semifinals run from 4:30-7:55 p.m., while dance semifinals are set for 7:00-8:49 p.m.
Sunday – ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex
The finals of the College Cheerleading and Dance National Championships take place at hp Field House during the evening. Cheerleading finals are set for 6:30-8:45 p.m., while the dance competition is from 10:39 a.m. to 12:01 p.m.
