ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – In first place in the American Athletic Conference at 3-0, the UCF men's basketball team aims to go 4-0 in league play for the first time since 2007-08 when the Knights take on UConn Sunday in Hartford.
The Knights (12-3, 3-0) have won five games in a row, dating back to an 80-73 overtime win over Miami (Ohio) back on Dec. 18. UCF most recently defeated East Carolina 48-45 behind a 19-point performance from B.J. Taylor in his first game back from injury.
Taylor missed seven games prior to last Tuesday's win over the Pirates with a thumb injury. The Knights' leading scorer is averaging 16.4 points and 4.5 assists per game. His three-pointer with the shot clock running down late against ECU propelled UCF to its third win to start league play.
Last year's American Athletic Conference Tournament Champion, UConn (5-9, 0-3) has struggled in its fifth season under head coach Kevin Ollie. The Huskies started the year with home losses to Wagner and Northeastern, and now have begun league play with losses to Houston, Tulsa and Memphis.
The Huskies will aim to get back on track against a UCF team that they have had plenty of recent success again. UConn has won eight of nine games against the Knights in the all-time series, including the last five.
The last time UCF defeated UConn was a 68-63 victory over the then defending champion and no. 4 ranked Huskies in the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament back on Nov. 25, 2011. Last season UConn won 67-41 in Orlando and 67-46 in Storrs.
Sunday's game will tip-off at 5 p.m. on CBS Sports Network with Rich Waltz, Doug Gottlieb and Jon Rothstein on the call. Fans can also listen to the game on FM 96.9 The Game, the iHeart Radio app and the UCF Knights app with Voice of the Knights Marc Daniels calling the action.
