ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com)—Senior Cortney Cesarini was named women's tennis team captain for the 2016-2017 season, as announced on Thursday.

"As a new coaching staff, the first thing we do is take a hard look at who our leaders are,"  head coach Bryan Koniecko said. "I have been impressed from day one with our senior Cortney Cesarini, who has immediately helped us strengthen our culture of excellence at UCF. If you can raise the level of effort and performance in those around you, you are officially a leader and Cortney can do just that."

The Lower Gwynedd, Penn., native is a four-year starter for the Knights. Last season, she tallied a 13-7 record in singles play. The senior went 11-5 in doubles play splitting time between the No. 2 and No. 3 spot. This fall she posted victories over Georgia Southern, FGCU, Stetson and Wisconsin.

"I am very grateful to be given the opportunity to lead such a great group of hardworking girls under inspiring coaches," Cesarini said. "Being a part of all the new and exciting changes at UCF, my goal is to help lead this program in the right direction this year and to lay the foundation for future UCF Knights."

The Knights open the 2017 season against Flagler at the UCF Tennis Complex on Jan. 11 at 3 p.m. Admission is free.
