Stopping Stetson

DELAND, Fla. (UCFKnights.com)--- The UCF women's tennis team improved to 3-1 on the season with a 5-2 victory over Stetson on Saturday afternoon at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.

"Doubles started out great for us again today," UCF head coach Bryan Koniecko said after the match. "It was nice to get another doubles point which gives us some cushion in singles. I'm happy with all the energy that we have been playing with in doubles."

The Knights started strong winning on all three of the doubles courts. Cortney Cesarini and Monica Matias defeated Isabella Fernandez and Arijana Korac, 6-1 on the top court. Natalia Serrano and Emilia Granstrom clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 victory over Sofia Ferding and Lucie Renault on court two.

Cesarini made quick work of Alexe Viaud with a 6-1, 6-1 victory on court five. Serrano then put UCF up 3-1 with her 6-1, 6-2 victory over Fernandez on the top court. Granstrom clinched the match for the Knights with a 6-2, 6-3 win on court four over Renault.

"Tomorrow we have another match and I look forward to improving in a couple spots that could've done a bit better in today," Koniecko said. "Any team that we play, especially on the road, is a great win. We are going to enjoy this one and get ready for tomorrow."

The Knights return to the USTA National Campus on Sunday to take on Bethune-Cookman at noon.
