ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) – UCF Vice President and Director of Athletics Dr. Daniel J. White announced Friday that gift commitments have surpassed the $2 million mark in fund-raising for the Knights' expansion of the football operations center and construction of a headquarters for the UCF athletics department.
"We are extremely grateful to everyone who has donated to this project," White said. "This facility will serve as the front door of UCF Athletics to our donors and fans, and the grand lobby will provide a home for the UCF Athletics Hall of Fame. The building will also solve several issues for us – enhanced spaces for football, as well as many Olympic sports – and a home for all of our administration.
"We strongly believe that positive organizational culture is vital to competitive excellence," White added. "This project will be absolutely transformational in achieving that. There is more work to do to bring this building to life, but I am confident in the generosity of many fans and alumni who are passionate about UCF and our bright future."
A two-story building will be constructed which will connect to the Wayne Densch Sports Center, which currently serves as the home to the UCF Football program. This will allow the football program to increase its space for position and team meetings, athletic training services and offices, along with other football-specific space.
"This new building will be huge for our football program," UCF head football coach Scott Frost said. "More space for meetings, training and recovery will be very beneficial for our coaches and student-athletes."
The new facility will also serve as the home to many of UCF's other coaches, administrators and staff.
The new building will be roughly 38,000 square feet and is expected to cost approximately $5 million. Construction is targeted to begin in Spring 2017.
