ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF men's basketball team aims to win its 11th home game of the season on Wednesday, playing host to SMU in an American Athletic Conference contest at CFE Arena. The Knights and the Mustangs will tip-off at 6 p.m. on ESPNews.
It will be a matchup between two of the top teams in the AAC standings as SMU comes into Wednesday in second at 7-1, while the Knights are tied for fourth at 5-2 in league play.
The Mustangs are 17-4 overall in their first full season under head coach Tim Jankovich. After taking over for Hall of Famer Larry Brown, Jankovich has kept the success going at SMU and has had his squad receiving votes in the national polls five times this season.
UCF (14-5) is coming off a tough road loss at Memphis on Sunday. The Knights weren't able to hang on for their first ever win on the road against the Tigers, falling 70-65. The Knights hold a 10-1 record at CFE Arena though, and have won all four of their conference games in front of the home crowd.
The Knights continue to lead the nation in field goal percentage defense (34.5) and are third in the country in scoring defense, allowing just 59.2 points per game. Wednesday could be a defensive battle, as SMU is second in the AAC in defense, giving up just 59.4 points per contest.
Wednesday's game will air on ESPNews with Allen Bestwick and Mark Wise calling the action. Fans can also listen to the game on FM 96.9 The Game, the iHeart radio app and the UCF Knights app with Marc Daniels and Taylor Young on the call.
The first 150 students at the game will receive the January edition of the Knightro Bobblehead. Fans can also purchase a bobblehead package (2 tickets, 1 bobblehead) for $40. Wednesday is also Dollar Dog Knight with hot dogs on sale for just $1.
