ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – Two former Knights will make their way back to Orlando this weekend as Matt Prater and Josh Sitton are set to play in the 2017 Pro Bowl at Camping World Stadium on Sunday, Jan. 29.
Both players spent the collegiate careers playing at Camping World Stadium (formerly the Citrus Bowl). Prater played all four years at the Citrus Bowl, while three of Sitton's four seasons were played at the stadium.
It marks the 10th consecutive year that UCF has had a former player in the Pro Bowl and the 13th season overall. It is the sixth time that multiple Knights have earned a spot in the game in the same year, including a program best three last year (Sitton, Brandon Marshall, Latavius Murray).
Prater will make his second Pro Bowl appearance, having previously participated in 2013. The Detroit Lions' kicker connected on a career high 31 field goals and his seven 50-yard field goals were tied for second most in the NFL.
Impressive with the game on the line, Prater converted six game-winning or game-tying field goals with less than four minutes to play in the fourth quarter or overtime this season. For his career, he is 25-of-25 on game-tying/go-ahead field goal attempts in the fourth quarter or overtime.
Prater holds both the NFL record for longest field goal, hitting a 64-yarder back on Dec. 8, 2013 for the Denver Broncos, and the Detroit Lions record, a 59-yard attempt on Jan. 3, 2016.
Sitton is set to make his fourth Pro Bowl appearance this weekend, also earning a spot in 2016, 2015 and 2013. He is tied with Asante Samuel for the second most Pro Bowl appearances by a Knight, trailing only Brandon Marshall with six.
The Chicago Bears guard started 12 games in 2016 after eight seasons with the Green Bay Packers. Sitton replaces former Green Bay teammate T.J. Lang, who left Sunday's NFC Championship game against the packers with a foot injury.
