ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – Outstanding play in UCF's win over Houston last week earned Korneila Wright the American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week honor, as announced by the league office on Monday.

The Orlando, Fla., native tied her career high with 11 points and eight assists in UCF's victory over the Cougars on Jan. 11. She committed just one turnover in 38 minutes of action.

Wright set a career-best by hitting five field goals and shot 55.6 percent from the field.

The rookie, who has earned the starting point guard nod 15 times, ranks 18th nationally among freshmen point guards with 70 assists this season. Wright ranks in the top five among league players in assists.

UCF improved to 11-6 on the season and collected their first conference victory with the road win.

The Knights head to East Carolina on Wednesday. The game, which is slated for a 7 p.m. start, can been seen on the American Digital Network. The Black and Gold are back in CFE Arena to host Tulsa at 1 p.m. on Jan. 21.
