Setback Suffered

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF women's tennis team fell, 5-2, to Iowa on Sunday afternoon at the USTA National Campus in Lake Nona.

"I'm really happy with the way we started the match in doubles," said head coach Bryan Koniecko. "In singles I thought Iowa just did a great job in some big moments during the match, deep in sets. They took a couple key points and we just couldn't overcome in singles. Going forward we have to be a little more aware of the big points and a little bit more competitive when it comes to those situations. I'm proud with the way we fought and the way we competed.

The Knights started the day strong, clinching the doubles point. At the second spot, Natalia Serrano and Emilia Granstrom defeated Anastasia Reimchen and Carin Runefelt, 6-4. Nicole Jimenez and Elizabeth Bagerbaseh clinched the doubles point, 7-6 (4), with a victory over Montana Crawford and Adorabol Huckleby.

"Nicole and Elizabeth did an incredible job at three to put our team in a position to win today," Koniecko said. "We had good energy from the start."

In singles, Emilia Granstrom was the lone Knight to take a victory. The junior downed Huckleby 6-2, 6-4 at No. 5 singles.

The Knights take on Bethune-Cookman on Sunday, Jan. 22 at 3 p.m., at the USTA National Campus.
