ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – Each year, the Orlando International Amateur championship draws high-level amateur golfers from the United States and abroad. Last week, three Knights made the short trek to take on the Orange County National Golf Center and Lodge's Crooked Cat course.
UCF senior Ashley Holder, sophomore Nicolette Donovan, and sophomore transfer Anna Hack used the event as an opportunity to work on their game during the holiday break.
Holder led the trio, finishing tied for fourth after carding rounds of 74-71-76= 221 (+5). She also turned in the best finish for the Knights in each the team's last three events and has been named to the American Athletic All-Conference Team three years running.
Hack also had an impressive tournament, finishing in sole possession of sixth. The newcomer finished just two shots behind teammate Holder, turning in steady rounds of 75-74-74= 223 (+7).
Donovan shot a two-day total of 156, narrowly missing the cut. Donovan also competed in the Dixie Amateur Dec. 19-22 at the Woodlands Country Club in Tamarac, Fla. where she finished tied for 29th.
Freshman Maria Balcazar and junior Kaeli Jones also took part in the Dixie Amateur. Balcazar finished tied for 21st in the four day event while Jones finished tied for 40th.
UCF will resume the second half of the 2016-17 campaign Jan. 30 in the one-day Florida Shootout in Lecanto, before hosting its only home event of the season at Eagle Creek Golf Club Feb. 5-7.
