WINTER GARDEN, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) -- Varsity Knight Kyle Wilshire earned qualification for the Web.com Tour Sunday at Orange County National.
Wilshire, who competed for UCF head coach Bryce Wallor from 2010-2014, worked his way through the preliminary stages of Web.com Tour Q School to advance to the Final Stage, which was held Thursday-Sunday. The former Knight -- a Georgetown, Ky. native who currently calls Orlando home -- finished tied for 14th in the Final Stage tournament. Those finishing in 11th through 45th place Sunday are guaranteed entry into the first eight events of the 2017 Web.com Tour schedule.
WIlshire opened the tournament with a 2-under 69 on Thursday playing the Panther Lake Course. Friday saw Wilshire move over to the Crooked Cat Course, where he was once again 2-under, this time with a 70. Day three on Saturday was back to Panther Lake, where a 1-under 70 left him in very good shape heading into Sunday's final round. On Sunday, back at Crooked Cat, Wilshire cemented his opportunity to take part in the Web.com Tour with his best round of the tournament, a 3-under 69. Six of his 19 birdies for the tournament came on Sunday.
For the last two seasons, Wilshire has played on the PGA's Mackenzie Tour in Canada. Here's a look at his Mackenzie Tour bio.
Play on the 2017 Web.com Tour will begin in January. Wilshire will join former UCF teammate Greg Eason on the Web.com Tour. Eason has played two full seasons on the Web.com Tour already.
