ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – Varsity Knight Monifa Sealy is one step closer to realizing her dream, after advancing the final stage of LPGA qualifying. She is battling a field of 156 players vying for 20 full LPGA Tour cards and 25 partial cards.
Known as "Mo" to her teammates, Sealy was a four-year starter for the Knights and earned all-conference honors her junior and senior years. She left UCF at the top of her game, taking medalist honors at the 2015 American Athletic Conference Championship and helping secure the team trophy for the Black and Gold.
Sealy dreams of being the first female professional golfer from her home country of Trinidad and Tobago. Earlier this year in an interview with Symetra Tour's Bret Lasky, she said she hopes to help raise the profile of golf in Trinidad and Tobago and inspire younger generations.
"I believe I am currently the only female pro golfer in the country," Sealy said. "There are a few male professionals who are working to achieve Tour status and Stephen Ames (4-time winner on PGA TOUR) is the most acclaimed from Trinidad and Tobago, but he carries the Canadian flag. I am looking forward to being the first to wear our Trinidad & Tobago flag on Tour."
In 2016, Sealy finished in the top 10 six times in National Women's Golf Association (NWGA) events. She has also been a regular on the Symetra Tour where she notched one top 20 finish and has a scoring average 74.3 through 12 events.
Final stage is being held Nov. 30 - Dec. 4 at LPGA International in Daytona Fla. Click here to follow final stage results via live scoring.
