ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – UCF men's basketball head coach Johnny Dawkins announced three National Letter of Intent signings on Monday, adding Myles Douglas, Daniel Lewis and Kani Coles to the Knights roster for the 2017-18 season.
"We're thrilled to bring Myles, Daniel and Kani into the UCF family," Dawkins said. "The three of them are going to be able to give us plenty of versatility and depth as we continue to improve next season. Having them join the group of transfers currently sitting out this year, make us very excited about the future of Knights basketball."
Douglas is a 6-foot-7 forward out of Baltimore, Md., who currently plays at Paul VI High School in Fairfax, Va. The versatile big man averaged double figures in his first season at Paul VI in 2015-16. Douglas also had offers from Maryland, West Virginia, Georgia Tech, Xavier, Miami and others.
"Myles is going to bring really good versatility to our program," Dawkins said. "He can play multiple positions on the front line, he's long and he's capable of stepping out and knocking down shots. We're really happy to have added to our roster."
Lewis, a 6-foot-4 guard from Atlanta, is in his senior season at Westlake High School. A prolific three-point shooter, Lewis held offers from Xavier, Auburn, Georgia, Vanderbilt and others.
"Daniel can play either guard position for us, which gives us flexibility and depth on the perimeter," Dawkins said. "He's a very good jump shooter and will help stretch the floor for us. He'll be a great addition to our team for next year."
Coles is in his second season at Pensacola State College and will join the Knights as a junior in 2017-18. The 6-foot-8 forward played his high school basketball at Edmondson in Baltimore, leading his team to a Maryland Class 1A State Championship as a junior.
"When I think of Kani, I think warrior. He's a hard-nosed player, he's explosive around the basket and he can step outside and knock down a shot. And on top of that, he's a good passer of the basketball."
The Knights will also add Aubrey Dawkins, Dayon Griffin, Terrell Allen and Rokas Ulvydas to the active roster next season. All four have been practicing with UCF this season, but are unable to play due to NCAA transfer rules.
