ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – Varsity Knights Kyle Wilshire and Cliff Kresge each advanced to the final stage of Web.com qualifying school earlier this month.
Every year, players take their shot at the tour through first and second stage qualifiers at various sites across the country. Players who advance to final stage earn a Web.com tour card for the following season.
A Georgetown Ky. native, Wilshire played all four years of his collegiate career in black and gold and posted a 74.04 career scoring average before graduating in 2014. He secured a place in final stage when he tied for 11th in the second stage qualifier at Plantation Preserve Golf Course after carding a 70-66-71-70= 277 (-7).
Kresge, who is looking to rekindle his professional career, also advanced to final stage after firing rounds of 66-72-68-70= 276 (-12) and tying for 11th at the RTJ Golf Tail at Magnolia Grove in Mobile, Ala. He spent two seasons as a Knight and was named second-team All-American in 1990 before turning pro.
Kresge previously notched four wins on the Nationwide Tour before moving up the PGA Tour where he enjoyed some success, finishing third at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and fifth at the Verizon Heritage Classic in 2008.
Final stage will be held at Orange County National's Crooked Cat and Panther Lake courses in Winter Garden, Florida, December 8-11.
