Opens in a new window More Knights Football

ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) – UCF head football coach Scott Frost spoke about the Knights' defense leading the way in this season's turnaround Thursday morning. He also talked a little later in the day about the team having fun on the practice field.

Could be the upward trajectory of the Knights and the joy they are getting from the game are in direct correlation.

Frost spoke about the defense on his usual Thursday morning chat with the guys on the Open Mike Program on 96.9 The Game. He was asked how hands-on he is with the defense. Of course, in addition to being the head coach, he is also calling the offensive plays. So, Frost trusts defensive coordinator Erik Chinander and the defensive staff implicitly.

"I believe in hiring good people and letting them do their job," Frost said. "Coach Chinander has done a great job as the coordinator. Coach Dawson, Coach Fisher, Coach Ruud, Coach Dewitt (have done) a great job on the defensive side of the ball. Part of being a good manager of any business is to make sure you have the right people in place and then backing off and letting them do their job. Those guys deserve a ton of credit for the successes we've had this year."

Later in the morning, the Knights went through a light workout/walk-through. During and after the practice, it was evident the team was having a good time and enjoying camaraderie with one another. Coach Frost addressed that when he also got a light workout during his regular Thursday media session.

"You're always better at what you do when you're enjoying what you do and the enthusiasm has been great all year," Frost said. "I's been really good the last few weeks and that's what I want. I want a bunch of guys that enjoy coming out and going to practice. We put in too much work not to try to have fun while we do it and guys are having fun."
