ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) - UCF Vice President and Director of Athletics Danny White announced Monday that head men's soccer coach Bryan Cunningham has been relieved of his duties.
"We have determined that our men's soccer program needs a change in leadership," said White. "We are grateful for Bryan's hard work and the dedication he and his staff have shown over the past 10 years. Bryan and his staff have worked diligently to ensure our student-athletes become successful young men. However, we expect our men's soccer program to compete for American Athletic Conference championships and make regular NCAA postseason appearances."
Cunningham compiled a record of 71-82-28 in his 10 seasons at the helm of the Knights and led the program to two NCAA Tournament berths (2010 and 2011).
"I want to thank all our former players and alums," Cunningham said. "I want to thank (former Director of Athletics) Keith Tribble for giving a young head coach a chance 10 years ago. I want nothing but the best for the future of the program. I'm proud of what we accomplished. Someone is going to inherit a great group of young men."
White also said the Knights will stage a national search for UCF's sixth head coach in program history.
"We're going to immediately begin the efforts to find a coach we believe can bring championships to UCF and the Orlando community," White said. "We're going to be thorough and ensure we have the right person to lead our student-athletes. I'd like to thank Bryan and his family for their many positive contributions to UCF."
The Knights finished 5-11-0 this past season.
