Game Notes UCF-USF (11-1)

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com)— Three points are on the line in the War On I4 rivalry series on Wednesday evening in Tampa. The Knights who collected the first three points, make the trip to take on the Bulls in the Sun Dome.
 
Last Time Out

  • UCF (18-7, 8-4 AAC) started the weekend falling in a close five-set match with Cincinnati (22-25, 25-23, 25-21, 20-25, 8-15) on Thursday. The Knights then swept East Carolina 3-0 (27-25, 25-21, 25-20).
  • On the weekend, senior Jalé Hervey tallied 42 kills, hitting at a .330 clip and averaging 5.25 kills per set over the two matches. The Huntsville, Ala., native also posted 30 digs, averaging 3.75 digs per set.
  • Sophomore Jordan Pingel had a record weekend, making 52 digs and averaging 6.50 digs per set. The Colorado Springs, Colo., native also recorded 13 assists, averaging 1.62 assists per set. The libero recorded a career-high nine assists and a season-high 31 digs against Cincinnati. 
  • Freshman Jeanne Westney ranks second in the conference in total blocks (97). The Washington, D.C., native is nationally ranked in solo blocks (T26) and total blocks (91).
  • As a team, the Knights are nationally ranked in the top 50 in six categories. UCF is ranked 20th in assists per set (13.30), 22nd in digs per set (16.79), 23rd in kills per set (14.18), 33st in team assists (1,210), 35th in team kills (1,290) and 37th in team attacks per set (36.97).

 
Scouting the Bulls

  • The Black and Gold face USF (16-8, 7-5 AAC) on Wednesday evening at the Sun Dome.
  • Earlier this season, the Knights swept the Bulls to garner the first three points of the War on I4 series.
  • USF went 1-1 last week defeating ECU 3-1, before being swept by Cincinnati.
  • Dakota Hampton leads the Bulls with 257 kills, followed by Clara Payne with 179 kills. Alex Mendoza leads with team with 925 assists, averaging 10.6 assists per set.
  • Amy Van Sant paces the squad with 343 digs, followed by Elysa Panick with 277. Mendoza also has had 242 digs on the season.

War On I4 Update

  • Volleyball took the first three points of the War on I4 series. USF took a 6-3 lead in the points with a victory in men's soccer.
  • The Knights and Bulls split in women's soccer, but USF held a 9-6 advantage.
  • UCF retook the lead when women's cross country defeated the Bulls in the conference meet.
  • The Black and Gold lead 12-9.

 
"I am willing to bet that (USF has) had this match circled on their calendar for quite some time now," said head coach Todd Dagenais. "Their talent and experience is so deep. If you look throughout the year the only difference between them and us in conference is our Sept. 21 match. I think we are going to see two teams that are very equal and very hungry."
