ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF baseball team wrapped up its annual Black and Gold World Series Sunday, with the Black team coming out on top two-games to one. Fans were able to catch an early glimpse of the Knights during three intra-squad games over the weekend.
Head coach Greg Lovelady was happy with the way both sides competed and pleased with the improvement the team has shown since reporting to practice this fall.
"We are a much better team than we were in the beginning of September," Lovelady said. "I'm really proud of the guys and I'm happy with where we are at right now. I told them we are not where we need to be, but we are on the right track."
As the fall begins to wind down, Lovelady said the team will rest the pitching staff and work one-on-one with position players to focus on cleaning up some mistakes. Players will also continue to work on strength and conditioning over the holiday break in order to be ready for the start of the season.
The Knights regular-season campaign is tentatively set to begin mid-February.
